Area Rugs - Rugs for the Home

Many styles of Braided, Contemporary, Oriental, Persian and Kids Rugs.

Early American settlers lived in cabins built from logs without the benefit of today's insulation against cold and heat.  To cover the cracks in their wood hewn floors, they used floor coverings for looks and to help keep winter's chill at bay.  The first rug to appear among the settlers was the braided rug which was made from strips of any kind of cloth that was available.  These were made by braiding these strips of cloth much like a girl's hair is braided.  The braids were then sewn together in a circle for the cabin floor.  Since the strips of cloth came from blankets, coats, canvas, and old torn clothing, the rugs contained several different colors.  These first floor coverings were simple, but provided warmth for the colonists.

Since then, rugs have evolved into different shapes and colors and are created from many different types of materials. You will find them in a variety of styles and sizes too. They are used for decoration as well as for comfort and warmth in the winter. They can brighten a room with color, cover carpeting that needs a lift or just give your home a warm, inviting atmosphere. Check out our collection of area rugs for one that reflects your sense of style and color, including sheep skin for that area in front of your fireplace.
